I have been working on more of my copper critters. I have been doing a lot of piercing (sawing). Butterfly, Mantis – which both have open wings and I plan on filling with transparent resin. Tarantula, Scorpion – more insects for the collection. Asian Dragon which I have started on and a European Dragon. The insects are about 3 – 4 inches in length while the dragons will be closer to a foot in length and have a lot more pieces.
I am excited to announce that I have just won my first show award. I won the CR Hill Award for my “Copper Insects” at the 2017 BBAC Current Student Works Competition Show. There were over 300 items submitted to the show and only 108 items were select for the show. 19 of those were given an award.
My “Copper Insects” have been accepted in 2017 BBAC Current Student Works Competition. This is a juried exhibition, which means that submitted work is selected or not selected by the juror. Susan Aaron-Taylor is the 2017 student show juror. A message from the BBAC – “Congratulations to the artists listed below whose work was juried in to this year’s exhibit, out of more than 300 entries.” For more information please click here!
I have just completed my 6 week course on Precious Metal Clay (PMC) at Birmingham-Bloomfield Art Center. At left you see one of the bronze pieces I made, a pendant. We
learned many techniques to work the metal clay, to shape and form the clay to achieve the desired results. I worked in bronze, but also learned to work with silver clay. The metal clay looks and works a lot like regular clay and is also fired in a kiln. I will post all of the pieces I made to pinterest on the clay board.
My plan is to show my journey as a creator of things. Stop back from time to time to see my progression.
